Astron was created from Seiko’s passion for innovation, and now, under the theme of ‘Solidity,’ a series of solar timepieces have been created for the future of innovation.

This dial of this timepiece features a stamped star-shaped pattern – a process difficult to achieve on a dial with a solar cell. In a light blue colour, the dial aims to portray the glow of the stars in the night sky. Under a dual-curve sapphire crystal glass, the hands and indices are coated with a layer of Lumibrite for legibility in the dark. The case is made from lightweight titanium, with a super-hard coating. This model has a black ceramic bezel for improved scratch resistance.

This 5X83 calibre has solar GPS functionality, allowing for instantaneous and accurate changing of the time, no matter where you are in the world. It features a chronograph function, allowing for the measurement of elapsed time up to 1/20th of a second. It can be measured on its 12 o’clock sub dial. Whereas with other solar watches, the dial is restricted by the need for maximum visibility of the solar cells and so decoration must be minimal, this movement is highly energy-efficient, allowing for colours and textures on the dial.

Seiko Astron: the world’s first GPS solar watch – powered by light, automatically adjusted to your exact time through the latest satellite technology.

* In the actual watch, the case back direction may differ from the photograph.

      Solar Powered Mechanism

A solar watch is a watch that operates by converting natural or artificial light energy into electrical energy. The solar cell unit located beneath the dial absorbs light energy, which is then converted into electrical energy. This electrical energy is stored in a rechargeable battery and used to power the watch’s movement.
