PROSPEX 1970 DIVER

1970 Diver's Watch Reinterpretation. Designed for those who treat life as the ultimate adventure, the Seiko Prospex line meets every challenge with technological excellence and style. Part of a rich legacy of innovation in high-intensity timekeeping, Prospex continues to celebrate a long history of sports watch excellence with recreations and reinterpretations of landmark achievements. With contemporary styling and technology, this versatile timepiece reimagines Seiko's famed 1970 diver's watch, complete with the iconic case design that revolutionized underwater safety with a recessed crown creating a built-in crown guard at 4 o'clock. Sleeker and slimmer than the original, this masterfully updated design is crafted of stainless steel with super-hard coating, and includes a dual-curved anti-reflective sapphire crystal, black one-way rotating elapsed timing bezel, screwdown crown and caseback. The sporty grey dial features a date calendar and LumiBrite hands and markers. Following ISO standards for scuba diving to depths of up to 200 meters, this exceptional watch can be wound manually or automatically and includes a 24-jewel automatic movement with a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. 200m Water Resistant.

Seichu. A traditional braiding technique from Japan.

The fabric straps incorporate a traditional braiding technique from Japan called Seichu. Their rich texture and color complexion are familiar in Japanese culture for their use in fabric designs, as seen in a traditional “obijime,” the decorative cord that holds a Kimono sash in its place. The straps present a uniquely Japanese aesthetic and texture and are specially manufactured to have a tensile strength nearly four times that of regular Seiko fabric straps*. Their strength and resistance to degradation caused by exposure to sunlight, meet the demanding standards of Seiko’s diver’s watches and are perfect for use under water. In addition, thanks to its unique braiding pattern, the straps have the flexibility and air permeability that ensure maximum comfort on the wrist.

What is an Automatic Watch?

An automatic watch harnesses the wearer’s arm’s movement to power its mechanism. As the arm swings, a rotor inside the watch rotates, winding the mainspring. This stored energy is then released, driving the gears that keep the watch’s hands moving and ensure accurate timekeeping.
