Watches & Wonders 2023 - Alpina

Hey watch enthusiasts, it's that time of year again! Brace yourself for Watches & Wonders, the ultimate event where luxury watch brands showcase their latest and greatest creations. While we've seen the usual suspects before, this year there's a newcomer in town - Alpina. And let me tell you, they're making a grand entrance with some exciting additions to their Alpiner Extreme collection. In particular, the inclusion of an integrated steel bracelet is a game changer. So, what else can we expect from Alpina at the 2023 Watches & Wonders? Let's explore!

Get ready to be blown away by the new and improved Alpiner Extreme Automatic! This updated model comes with some exciting changes, the biggest one being the stunning stainless steel bracelet. Gone are the days of rubber straps, as the Automatic now boasts a more luxurious feel, thanks to its sleek and well-crafted bracelet. And let's not forget the elegant design: Alpina has thoughtfully removed the first link for improved wearability and an even more sophisticated look. The bracelet, with its fully brushed finish, perfectly complements the sporty nature of the Alpiner Extreme series. Meanwhile, the sleek cushion case maintains the sleek dimensions and contours of last year's model, with a bold blend of polished and brushed surfaces and a contemporary angular shape. At 41mm, it's the perfect size for everyday wear, making this updated classic a true must-have for watch enthusiasts everywhere.

Not only do you have the classic blue dial, but there is now an eye-catching gunmetal grey that is both elegant and subtle - a personal favourite of mine. The signature triangular texture is still present, but it really pops on the lighter grey version. Don't worry about functionality changes, central hands and a small date are still present, and everything is lumed for perfect visibility. I was impressed with the red triangle counterweight on the second hand, an ode to the Alpina logo. Get ready to step up your wrist game!

This watch is powered by an autowinding mechanism that doesn't require any winding from you. Plus, it has a sleek black rotor with the Alpina logo that adds a cool touch. The 26 jewels and high beat rate of 28,800 VpH ensure accurate timekeeping, and the 38 hour power reserve means you won't have to wind it every day - that's more time for you to go out and enjoy your day! Overall, this watch is a well-crafted investment that will keep you on time and looking good.

Alpine Alpiner Extreme Regulator Automatic

The Extreme Regulator Automatic timepiece boasts a unique regulator dial layout that you don't see every day. And boy, is it a beauty! The hours, minutes and seconds are all separated for effortless and super-accurate reading. It might take you a little while to get used to it, but once you do, you'll never want to go back. The subdial at 10 o'clock displays the hours, while the central minute hand and running seconds at 6 complete the layout. The inspiration behind this design dates back to railroad timekeeping, where it was necessary to have a clear view of all hands. This enables more precise readings, so you'll always know exactly what time it is.

The new Alpina Extreme Regulator is a modern adaptation of the classic Avalanche from 2005, this time with more manageable dimensions. Reducing the size from 48mm to 41mm makes it more comfortable and wearable for everyday occasions, otherwise keeping its high standards with 200 metres of water resistance. It has also been improved in colour palettes; now both the bracelet and rubber band have been designed with grey subdials on blue and an all black version with matching black rubber and deployant buckle. This timepiece feels up to date while retaining its identity through vintage inspired features that make it so voluminous on the wrist.

When we talk about watches, we often marvel at their aesthetic beauty, but timekeeping is equally important! The Alpina AL-650 automatic movement is a true marvel, based on the classic Unitas ebauche. With 31 precious jewels within its movement, it's designed for precision and accuracy. And if you thought that's all it had to offer, think again! This beauty has a power reserve of 38 hours, so you won't have to worry about constantly recharging it. This is a watch that's as reliable as it is stunning to look at.
