The Highlife Chronograph Automatic is a timepiece of true distinction. Its design is a nod to the fine watchmaking traditions of Geneva: polished and brushed satin finishes grace its case, sides, and bezel with two tilted pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock that control the starting and stopping of the chronograph as well as its resetting. The chronograph counters have an inwardly curved collar that allows for precise readings to measure 1/5th of a second. On the back, admirers can see through an anti-reflective sapphire crystal window into the automatic movement and its chronograph module, including its column wheel located at 3 o’clock. This watch is a testament to craftsmanship and precision.
The Highlife Gents models have a 41 mm case, available in various materials. The lack of horns allows for greater flexibility and helps the watch sit naturally on the wrist. The integrated design is infinitely more complicated to conceive than any strap with horns. The process requires perfect continuity between the lines of the case and the links, a smooth, regular but gradual transition to the clasp and natural fluidity that should be almost imperceptible.
The Highlife Chronograph Automatic is equipped with the FC-391 automatic chronograph caliber, featuring the hours, minutes, seconds, date and a chronograph. Beating at 28’800 alt/h and offering a 60-hour power reserve, the FC-391 automatic chronograph caliber is water-resistant up to 10 ATM.
Frederique Constant launched the first models in the Highlife collection over 20 years ago. Their unique design was characterised by the special strap built into the case. For 2020, the Brand has updated the ingenious concept and reinvigorated the collection by adding three new models: the Highlife Perpetual Calendar Manufacture, Highlife Heart Beat and Highlife Automatic COSC. All still feature the system which makes it possible to switch between a steel bracelet, a leather, crococalf suede or rubber strap, alternating from classic to sporty on a whim!
What is an Automatic Watch?
An automatic watch harnesses the movement of the wearer's arm to power its mechanism. As the arm moves, a rotor inside the watch rotates, winding the mainspring. This stored energy is then released, driving the gears that keep the watch's hands moving and accurate timekeeping.
